‘Thresholds’ – Grace Adam’s site-specific response to St Leonards’ architecture opens at The SPACE on Friday 21 August & runs to 4 October 2015. The installation comprises a series of entrances that refer to selected doorways into buildings around St Leonards-on-Sea. These are buildings constructed for worship, entertainment & living. The installation explores James Burton’s concept of a ‘tailor-made’ seaside resort, with architecture that reflected his grand vision. Our ideas of the seaside are in flux, and the project is part of Adam’s on-going exploration in to the public & private spaces that we build, inhabit & negotiate.
