ARTIST BILLBOARD: Jon Edgley
28th August 2021 | by James Shea

Artist Billboard presents commissions by diverse international artists on an outdoor billboard-like hoarding at The SPACE, St John’s Road, St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex.

The works can be viewed from pavement and street level from summer 2021 to summer 2022.

Artist Billboard’s first commission (July-August 2021) was:

OUR EXPLOITATION PAYS FOR THEIR VACATIONS by Jon Edgley

Jon Edgley’s creative practice explores his existence, class and position as a minimum wage worker, artist, curator, son, brother, cashier, shelf-stacker, customer and the many other roles that comprise his daily life in Blackpool UK.

‘OUR EXPLOITATION PAYS FOR THEIR VACATIONS stands as a reminder that it is only through the exploitation of the sweat, time and labour of the global working class that the wealth hoarding class is able to maintain its destructive, unsustainable and unjust regime which has plagued us all for long enough… This year many of us have been titled “essential workers” but soon enough the title of “unskilled labour” will return’.

The Space, Tempo Arts’ meanwhile arts venue, is the former site of the local railway workers’ social club in St Leonards.
