HIDDEN SPACES: ART AND NATURE
15th October 2020 | by James Shea

Initiated by Tempo Arts and Compass Community Arts in partnership with Historic Langney Priory, Eastbourne.

From July through early September weekly outdoor workshops for members of the Compass Monday Art Group were led by Christine Gist (Tempo Arts) & Fenya Sharkey (Compass Community Arts) at Historic Langney Priory, Eastbourne. Participants created drawings, paintings and sculpture inspired by the Priory’s wild gardens. They were encouraged to utilise found objects and natural materials to create temporary installations, creating a sculpture trail throughout the site. Painting, drawing, photography, poetry and a pop-up weaving museum were exhibited in The Cottage.

Artists : Neil Akehurst, Caroline Angella, Lawrence Butt, Tim Dodd, Hazel Durling, Chaye Fry, Christine Gist, Clive Jarman, Fenya Sharkey.

Hidden Spaces : art and nature was included in Heritage Open Days 2020 and during the two 3 day weekends received 304 visitors.

Realised by a grant from The Argus Appeal through Sussex Community Foundation and East Sussex Arts Partnership.
